Let’s talk T1D, decision fatigue & burnout (video)
Tune in for a helpful chat all about managing the mental burden that comes with living with type 1 diabetes (T1D), specifically looking at ways to help you manage decision fatigue and diabetes burnout.
It’s fact that people who live with T1D – either those who have the condition themselves, or parents and carers of children with it – often experience decision fatigue. And no wonder: a study found that people who live with T1D have to make around 180 extra decisions a day regarding their diabetes management, food, drinks, exercise choices, and more.
It’s a heavy mental burden to carry, and one that can lead to diabetes burnout.
In this video, you’ll learn:
- what burnout is, and how common it is
- tips to help you manage decision fatigue
- how to recognise the signs of diabetes burnout and distress in yourself and others (including children and teens)
- what to do when you’re feeling overwhelmed and burnt out
- and lots more helpful, practical advice.
This chat is hosted by Melanie Cullen, who is JDRFs mental health lead and psychologist, and mum of a teen with T1D. She is joined by Dr Keely Bebbington, a clinical psychologist who has a particular interest in helping people adjust to living with T1D and to reduce the burden of managing this chronic condition.
Find out when the next ‘Let’s Talk T1D’ session will be held live.
