Managing the emotional aspects of type 1 diabetes (T1D) with your child can be challenging, but there are many resources to support you along the way.
Children’s books are a fantastic way to engage your child and start conversations about T1D. They help normalise the condition and show your child (and their siblings and friends!) that they can do everything other kids do.

You, Me & T1D series by Stacey Constantini
This illustrated Australian book series is designed for younger children, aiming to educate them about living with T1D. It covers topics such as management techniques, the importance of support networks, and the message that people with T1D can do everything others can do. The books also focus on different types of diabetes management, including insulin pumps, Omnipod, and insulin injections.

Year One with Type One: A True Story of a Boy with Type 1 Diabetes by Mike Suarez
Aimed at children aged four and up, this book follows Andrew’s journey as he navigates his T1D diagnosis, symptoms, and daily management, all while enjoying typical childhood activities. The playful rhymes and engaging illustrations make it a great resource for diagnosed children and their families to understand and discuss diabetes.
Super Sammy! (A Tale For Type 1 Superheroes) by Josh Hall
This uplifting story answers common questions about T1D through the tale of Super Sammy, an energetic child who loves playing superhero with his dog Scout. Sammy’s journey helps kids understand their condition in a positive, non-scary way, showing that they can still be normal kids while managing T1D.
Rufus Comes Home by Kim Gosselin
