Season 1

Host of the T1D Tune In podcast series Andrew Geoghegan talks about his daughter’s T1D diagnosis. 

Two-time Walkley Award winner Andrew Geoghegan is a journalist and experienced TV interviewer and host. Andrew was the ABC’s Africa correspondent for four years, covering the continent’s major stories. His work has also been acknowledged with UN Australia Media Peace awards.

Andrew’s daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age eight, eight years ago.

 

In this episode we get to know entrepreneur Anna Mitsios. 

Anna was diagnosed with T1D at 18. It triggered a passion for nutrition, and in the following years she became a naturopath and nutritionist. She also went on to create Edible Beauty Australia and her own naturopathy clinic. Listen to her inspiring story of being a leader in business.

 

In this episode host Andrew Geoghegan catches up with researcher and model Kristina Abramoff. 

Kristina is a researcher from the University of Western Australia, working on a PhD in type 1 diabetes. Kristina is also a model and was a contestant on The Bachelor in 2020.

 

In this episode we meet Gary Kilov, a clinician, scientist and educator who has been living with T1D for more than 40 years.  

Gary’s leadership in the T1D subject area has been recognised with his honorary title of Associate Professor at Melbourne University.

 

In this episode we meet Eliza Bartlett, an Adelaide mental health nurse who uses her diabetes as motivation.

Eliza is also an epic fundraiser, setting herself challenges most people wouldn’t even contemplate. This is the story of Eliza Bartlett and her inspiring life with type 1 diabetes.

Season 2

Host Andrew Geoghegan catches up with Professor Shane Grey, Head of the Transplant Immunology Research Team at the Garvan Institute.

Professor Grey is working on a very exciting project: Australia’s first clinical islet transplant program.

 

Andrew Geoghegan speaks with Professor Liz Davis, a paediatric endocrinologist, about her research into the relationship between diabetes and exercising.

Professor Davis is the Head of the Diabetes Clinical Services at Perth Children’s Hospital, and co-lead of the Diabetes and Obesity Research team at Telethon Kids, a busy research team which has one stream of research focusing on exercise.

Her particular research interest is clinical research which improves the lives of children with diabetes. Professor Davis is the current president of the Australasian Paediatric Endocrine Group and a Clinical Professor at the University of Western Australia.

 

Andrew Geoghegan catches up with Dr Jeremy Robertson, who was diagnosed with T1D as an adult and had to pivot his career as a pilot as a result.  

Pilot and aviation medical examiner Dr Jeremy Robertson became the first person with type 1 diabetes in Australia to attain a Class 1 medical clearance from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), allowing him to fly commercially. Listen as he shares his extraordinary journey from flying for a major airline to becoming a GP, and back again.

 

Sébastien Sasseville was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2002. It hasn’t stopped from achieving his goals!  

Sebastien vowed that T1D would never keep him from living life to the fullest, and today his story is a testament to how challenges can be turned into opportunities. Host Andrew Geoghegan speaks with Sebastien about his amazing life and what his next big challenge will be.
