Dexcom G6 CGM added to devices available through CGM Subsidy Initiative
In a huge development for Australians living with type 1 diabetes, it has been announced today that the Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system has been added to the devices available through the Australian Government’s CGM Subsidy Initiative as part of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS). The subsidy will be effective from March 1st 2022.
The subsidy will be available eligible groups, including:
- Children and young people aged under 21 years with type 1 diabetes
- People with type 1 diabetes aged 21 years or older who have valid concessional status
- Women with type 1 diabetes who are actively planning pregnancy, pregnant, or immediately post-pregnancy
- Children and young people under 21 years with conditions very similar to type 1 diabetes who require insulin.
What does it mean for the Dexcom G5 Mobile CGM system?
Also from 1st March 2022, the Dexcom G5 Mobile CGM system (Dexcom G5 Mobile sensor and transmitter products) will be removed from the devices that are available through the CGM Initiative as part of the NDSS.
This delisting of Dexcom G5 comes after AMSL Diabetes announced that it will soon discontinue sales of Dexcom G5 products in Australia due to supply chain issues.
What if I am a current user of the Dexcom G5 Mobile CGM system under the Subsidy?
The NDSS is supporting people through the change to a replacement device, ensuring access to CGM products and continuity of care are maintained.
Users who access the Decom G5 through the CGM Initiative will be automatically updated to Dexcom G6 on 1st March 2022.
