Your monthly type 1 diabetes update – September issue
Hi there!
In this edition of our newsletter, we’re thrilled to share the latest breakthroughs in type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, a curated list of 20 must-read children’s books about living with T1D, a special feature on our advocacy champions, and a chance to join our upcoming JDRF fundraising events!
Let’s dive in…
Preschool-aged children in early-stage T1D have changes in blood sugar levels, even before they are officially diagnosed
New JDRF-funded research has found that preschoolers who are in the early, pre-symptomatic stages of T1D have changes in blood sugar levels well before symptoms appear.
Further work is being undertaken by the research team to investigate how and when blood sugar levels change in these children. This information is key to developing strategies to delay, and ultimately prevent symptomatic T1D.

Latest advocacy news
In advocacy news, our campaign for future funding for the Type 1 Diabetes Clinical Research Network (T1DCRN) is ramping up! We’re getting ready for our Kids in the House (KITH) event in November, where we take 100 advocates and their families to Parliament House to raise awareness about T1D and the importance of research funding.
In recent months, many of our amazing advocates have been actively meeting with their MPs and Senators, sharing their personal stories, highlighting the critical role research plays in our community, and driving home the need for increased funding for the T1DCRN.
