My type 1 hope

Ultimately, a cure. The trials at RAH by Drs Coates and Greenwood look hopeful. In the meantime, subsidised CGM for everyone. I have a full-time job (not eligible for concession), however CGM is still prohibitively expensive.

I've been lucky enough to get a few sensors, but I have to treat them like a precious commodity. When it hits a nerve or blood vessel on insertion and is incredibly painful and/or continuously bleeding I have to make a decision to put up with 10 days of pain or discard the ~$200 sensor.

My treatment is objectively better when I have CGM. However, once my current stock of CGM sensors runs out, I won't purchase new ones. It's a shame my health is sacrificed because CGM is unaffordable.

Your hopes for the future

JDRF Australia

JDRF Australia is the type 1 diabetes (T1D) charity, funding research to improve lives and find a cure for T1D. We’ve been a part of every breakthrough in T1D care in the last 5 decades. We drive innovation, demand action, and stand with everyone facing life with T1D.

With 10,000 Australians set to be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over the next decade, we’re driven by hope and an urgent need for continued research towards a cure. We also work hard to connect the dots between science and application with the aim of translating research into better treatments and technology faster.

We’re vocal on the issues important to the T1D community. Our supporters include those living with T1D, their loved ones, carers, clinicians, researchers, and community allies. And we ensure their voices can be on the national stage, in government, and in the wider community.

Join thousands of type 1 voices and help us shape a brighter future for T1D support, research, and management in Australia.
