The past 12 months has been challenging in so many ways, particularly for our community. However, as with every challenge the resilient T1D community has been faced with, the pandemic, and the challenges it brought with it, has certainly not defined us. During this time, we’ve continued to see an almost limitless amount of courage, strength, and resilience from all of you.

The challenges of the past 12 months and the impact COVID-19 has had on all our lives are both timely reminders of why we do what we do at JDRF. Thanks to your unconditional support, we haven’t let the pandemic pivot us away from our mission to improve lives and ultimately cure T1D.

In that spirit, I’m delighted to share that the One Walk Step Challenge is back in 2021. This is an exciting time of the year for all of us, and on the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin we’re setting an even more exciting target. We’ll be asking you to walk 100km to acknowledge 100 years since the discovery of insulin.

One Walk was designed to bring communities closer by allowing them to meet and walk together in person. Last year, due to the pandemic, we had to make a tough decision to take the event virtual. Taking an event as large as One Walk online came with a set of challenges, but we were privileged to feel the same support, excitement, and response from our community as we did at our flagship physical events. As a result, we raised an extraordinary $1.3 million together. We are so grateful for your support.

As we continue to live through the uncertainties of COVID-19, we have once again decided to make One Walk virtual for the health and safety of our community, and to maximise our support of vital T1D research. Nonetheless, our commitment to help you unite as a community online remains as strong as ever. We have a new set of challenges and targets to achieve with this year’s One Walk.

We look forward to inviting you to join the One Walk Step Challenge on August 1. Please register here for the exciting event beginning October 1. You can also follow our Facebook page or join our One Walk Step Challenge Facebook group to stay engaged and learn about our latest developments.

Thank you for your continued support.
